The summer of 2025 was all about cycling fun. More than 1 million recreational cyclists headed out with Fietsknooppunt.be. Based on all downloaded routes and the usage of our app, we compiled a ranking of the most popular cycling destinations in Flanders. Nieuwpoort tops the list, but there are plenty of surprises in the ranking!
The Fietsknooppunt app received an update to make it fully ready to give you an amazing summer. Minor bugs have been fixed and areas that could be improved have been addressed.

Limburg, known as the cycling province of Flanders, has expanded its cycling node network with a unique experience: Cycling between the Mining Heaps. This new route in Hoge Kempen National Park features a 380-meter floating pontoon bridge. The route connects the iconic mining heaps of Eisden and offers an impressive perspective of the mining landscape.

Our cycling platform now offers a heatmap that allows Premium users to easily find the most popular cycling routes in any region. The heatmap displays the most frequently used routes by users on our platform.

You can now plan multi-day cycling holidays thanks to a new feature in our route planner. Moreover, we have integrated the most important long-distance cycling routes of Belgium and the Netherlands into the cycling node network on our map.

During summer 2023, cycling was once again a hugely popular leisure activity in Flanders. NodeMapp.com had 280,000 unique visitors and 2.5 million kilometres of downloaded cycling routes. Limburg and the coast were the top destinations, with a notable increase in popularity for the Green Belt in Flemish Brabant.

The Route Planner Pro has changed a bit on our new website. The ability to plan routes that deviate from the hiking network is now integrated into our node planner (continue reading below image):
If you open our route planner, you can press the magnet symbol in the upper right corner. If you then choose Offgrid (auto) (automatic route planning) or Offgrid (manual) (connecting places manually), you can select places on the map and plan a route that deviates (partially or completely) from the hiking network.
You can switch between Node and Offgrid mode to create a route that runs partly along nodes and partly away from the node network.
